If 'Oppenheimer' was about how the atoms were turned into a deadly bomb...
Hiroshima by "John Hersey" is all about that devastation, how it killed more than a lakh people injuring more than another lakh mostly permanently! Out of 2.5 lakh inhabitants only about 30 to 40 thousand survived with no major injuries.
A story told interms of the lives of six people, 2 doctors, a Reverend, a catholic priest, a housewife and a factory clerk woman, 40 years apart after the first atomic bomb exploded on hiroshima on 6th august 1945 was regarded as the fine piece of journalism where the story was narrated in a non-passionate way by focussing on the victim rather than author's views, prejudices, political affiliations etc. This narration is regarded as 20th century's fine piece of journalism.
Japanese did come out of ashes but what they went through as a nation after 'Hiroshima' and 'Nagasaki', the loss, trauma, humiliation and generations of biological effects is in comprehensible....
