"ZERO TO ONE - Notes on startups" by Peter Thiel
'Zero to One' signifies a fundamental transformation in technologies rather than incremental innovation or improvements.
Peter thiel who is a celebrated investor in various successful start ups like Facebook, Spotify, Tesla to name a few and co founder of Paypal and Palantir technologies offers a first hand perspective of technology, investments, scale up and dynamics in any start-up.
His theory is simple which is, have a pre history with the people who you start company with, focus on technology and product rather than behaving like salesman amassing founders or venture capitalists dollars!
Have a brilliant engineer at the helm to set affairs in order rather than an MBA who has no clue on the product, keeping future in mind make sure your products have relevance as time passes.
This book is the result of class notes Peter compiled for his Stanford class on entrepreneurship and here are his seven commandments for any start-up
1. Is your technology a breakthrough?
2. Is your timing good or apt?
3. Do you have or can grab a significant market share?
4. Do you have the right team?
5. Can you deliver the product as envisaged?
6. Will your position be defensible in 10 to 20 yrs?
7. Have you noticed and done something unique that others don't ?
Its was really fun to read ZERO TO ONE as it was informative, practical, humane, engineering focussed, product facing and long term oriented.
