This is a first hand, day to day account of what happened in those three months ( june to august) when Dr.Manmohan singh under the aegis of Narasimha Rao opened up Indian economy forever to foriegn investment in 1991.
It gives a very good insight into the state of indian economy then, thought process behind these drastic policy changes, inhibitions from inside the ruling congress party and opposition from left and the BJP amongst other parties. And in the process how the team manmohan singh was determined to change india for good. This happened with consultations from all political parties taking all into confidence.
India with its skepticism with foriegn businesses due to its experience with british colonisation had a good reason not to open up. But destiny had its own course which is evident in PVN becoming prime minister after assassination of Rajiv Gandhi and manmohan singh becoming the first bureaucrat finance ministry which led a huge and a risky proposition at that time but as they say " tough times requires tough decisions ".
This book is very insightful for any policy enthusiast, students of economic history, political analysts, jounalists and casual reader alike. This is a good sneek peek into how the PMO and his advisers functioned in formulating one of the independent India's prominent policies which changed India forever for good!
