This book is about the blatant lies Ranbaxy, the largest generic drug company then, told to the most strict regulator FDA for a period of 10 years (early 2000 till 2010)

Lies :

A company wide falsification of batch data, creating false documents overnight, creating false trial - patient data, backdating information, destroying records, fake tests, tests with competitor ( branded drugs) material to show how good are generics etc.

Quality Impact :

Drugs that are cheap for US, Europe, latin america, asian and african market but are JUNK when it comes to efficacy rates! Whixh means they either dont work or kill patients (because of no timely release of active ingredients or killing impurities)

Involvement :

The then CEO of Ranbaxy and Fortis hospitals (yes Ranbaxy owned fortis as well then), Malvinder singh, his brother shivinder, Abha pant of regulatory affairs, D S Brar ( Ex CEO), Dr.Brain temptest ( Ex CEO), Rajiv malik (Ex manager process development and later board official of Mylan) and scores of employees of Ranbaxy across India

Whistleblower(s) :

Dinesh thakur (who came from Bristol Meyers Squib, US) who was heading the teams with respect to portfolio management, regulatory affairs and some portion of R and D.

Worldwide impact :

Ranbaxy plead guilty for committing outright fraud ( 7 felonies ) with US Justice department and paid 500 million USD. Now the company exists as part of Sun pharma.

Cultural impact :

The companies like Dr. Reddy's, Mylan, Glenmark, RPG, GVK life sciences, Wockhardt also committed such felonies and were caught later. The comman factor was executives from RANBAXY who were later employed there!

Impact on Dinesh thakur :

For doing the right thing he and his family had to undergo mental stress and trauma for 15 years, was literally under employed, divorced because of relationship clashes, moral mismatches etc.

Impact on India :

Sub standard / poisonous drugs for Indian customers which are unregulated by DGCI, CDSCO ( so called Drug controlers in India). Cant quantify the lives lost, adverse health impact because of lack of data, under or nil reporting and seriousness of indian government, drug regulators and no so demanding Indian consumer.

ನಾನು ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ ಅಪ್ಪನ ಜೊತೆ ಬಾಬಾ ಬುಡನ್ಗಿರಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಪರ್ವತಗಿರಿ ಶ್ರೇಣಿ , ಮಂಜು ಮೋಡ, ತಣ್ಣನೆಯ ಅನಾಮಿಕತೆ, ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಥಿಲಗೊಂಡು ಬಿದ್ದಿದ್ದ ಶೆಡ್ ಮನೆಗಳು, ಮುರಿದಿದ್ದ ಕೈಮರ, ಐದು ಮೀಟರ್ ಮುಂದೆ ಬಿಲ್ಕುಲ್ ಕಾಣದ ಹಾದಿ, ಮುಂಜಾವಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಕವಿದಿದ್ದ ಮಬ್ಬುಗತ್ತ್ಲು, ಕೊರೆವ ಮುತ್ತಿನಂತೆ ಉದುರುವ ಮಾಣಿಕ್ಯಧಾರಾ ಜಲಪಾತ, ಜಾರುನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಜೀವ ಬಾಯಿಗೆ ಬಂದಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಸ್ನಾನ, ದತ್ತರ ಗುಹೆ, ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆಂದು ಗುಮಾನಿಯಿರುವ ಹುಲಿ, ಜೈಲಿನಂತ ಗುಹೆಯ ಹೊರಗಡೆಯ ಬಾಬಾ ಸಾಬರ ಗೋರಿಗಳು, ಅಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಮುಲ್ಲಾ ಒಬ್ಬರು ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಅದೆಂತದೋ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಬೀಜದ ಕಾಯಿಗಳು …ನನ್ನ ಸ್ಮೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಇದೆ. ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾಗ ಇದೇ ದತ್ತ ಪೀಠದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗಾಗ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಜಟಾಪಟಿ, ದತ್ತಮಾಲಾ ಅಭಿಯಾನ, ಹಿಂದೂ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಪ್ರಕ್ಷುಬ್ಧ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ, ಪ್ರಗತಿಪರರೂ ಸಂಘದವರಿಗೂ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮಾತಿನ, ತೋಳ್ಬಲದ ಗುದ್ದಾಟ, ತಲೆಕೆಡಿಸಿ ಕೂರುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾಡಳಿತ, ಅದನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತ ಅವರಿವರನ್ನ ಸಂದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಮೀಡಿಯಾ, ಒಬ್ಬೊಬ್ಬರ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ, ಹುನ್ನಾರವೇನು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾರದ ವಯಸ್ಸು , ಆಮೇಲಾಮೇಲೆ ತಿಳಿದ ಒಂದೊಂದೇ ವಿಷಯಗಳು, ತಿಳಿಯದೇ ಉಳಿದುಹೋದ ನೂರಾರು ಮಜಲುಗಳು ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಮಹೇಂದ್ರ ಕುಮಾರರು ಬರೆದು, ನವೀನ್ ಸೂರಿಂಜೆಯವರು ಮೂಲ ಆಶಯಕ್ಕೆ ಚ್ಯುತಿ ಬಾರದ...

ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿಗಳ ಹಾಯ್ದು ಊರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಫರ್ಮಾನು ಕೊಡುವ ನಾವು ಸಾವಧಾನವಾಗಿ ವಸ್ತು ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಗ್ರಹಿಸುವುದು ಕಮ್ಮಿ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಒಂದು ಕಡೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸ ಹೋಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಣೀಯ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳು, ಊಟ , ಉಡುಗೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಲಗೂನ ಬರೆದು ಬಿಡುವ ಚಾಳಿಯೂ ಉಂಟು. ಇಂತಹ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸ ಕಥನವನ್ನು ಚಿಂತನವನ್ನಾಗಿಸಿ ಒಂದು ಜಾಗದ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಸ್ಥಿತ್ಯಂತರಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ, ತಲ್ಲಣಗಳನ್ನು, ಬದುಕಿನ ಬಗೆಯನ್ನು, ಹೊರಗಿನವರ ಮುಂದೆ ತೆರೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳ ಬಹುದಾದಷ್ಟೇ ಬಾಗಿಲು ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಪಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಅಂತರ, ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಯುದ್ಧ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕಟ್ಟಳೆ ಹೀಗೆ ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿ ಬೆರೆತ ಆದರೆ ವಸ್ತುನಿಷ್ಠವಾದ ಬರಹಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲಿವೆ. ಇಸ್ರೇಲ್ ಪ್ಯಾಲೆಸ್ಟೈನ್ ನಿಂದ ಮೊದಲ್ಗೊಂಡು ಸ್ಲೊವೇನಿಯಾ, ಈಜಿಪ್ಟ್, ಕ್ರೊಯೇಷಿಯಾ, ಮ್ಯಾಕಾಡೋನಿಯಾ, ಜೋರ್ಡಾನ್ ಮುಂತಾದ ದೇಶಗಳ ಕುರಿತಾದ ಚಿಂತನೆ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕಲಾವಿದರುಗಳ, ಸೂಫಿಗಳ ಬಗೆಗಿನ ಚಿತ್ರಣವೂ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಒಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಎಲ್ಲ ಬರಹಗಳ ಮೂಲ ಧಾತು ಜೀವನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯೆಂದರೆ ಅದು ಸೂಕ್ತ ಅನ್ನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ

ಮೊನ್ನೆ ಫೇಸ್ಬುಕ್ನ ಆಫ್ರಿಕಾದ ಒಂದು ಸಾಹಿತಿಕ ವಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನೈಜೀರಿಯಾದ ಇಬ್ಬರು ದಿಗ್ಗಜ ಬರಹಗಾರರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರು ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ? ಚೀನುವ ಆಚಿಬೆಯೋ ಅಥವಾ ವೋಲೆ ಸೋಯಿಂಕಾನೋ ಎಂಬ ವಿಷಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಚರ್ಚೆ ನಡೆದಿತ್ತು. ಚೀನುವಾ ಅಚಿಬೆ ಕವಿ, ಕಥೆಗಾರ, ಕಾದಂಬರಿಕಾರನಾಗಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರೆ ವೋಲೆ ಸೋಯಾಂಕಾನ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ನಾಟಕಗಳು …he is a playwright ! ಆಫ್ರಿಕಾದಿಂದ ಹೊರಗಿರುವ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನರಿಗೆ ಅಚಿಬೆಯ things fall apart, the arrow of god , man of the people (African trilogy) ನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಗೊತ್ತಿರುವುದೇ ಹೊರತು ವೋಲೆ ಸೋಯಂಕಾನ ನಾಟಕಗಳು ಅಷ್ಟು ತಿಳಿಯವು. ಅಷ್ಟೇಕೆ ಆಫ್ರಿಕಾದ ಒಳಗೇ ಅಚಿಬೆಯೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರ ವಾದ. ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬರು ಅವರಿಬ್ಬರ ವಿಚಾರಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಅಚಿಬೆ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯಶಾಹಿಯ ವಿರುದ್ಧ , ವಸಾಹತುಶಾಹಿಯ ವಿರುದ್ಧ, ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿನ ಅಮಾಯಕತೆಯ, ಅವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಬಹು ನಿಷ್ಠುರವಾಗಿ ಬರೆದರೆ ಸೋಯಂಕಾನ ಬರಹಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಡನಂಬಿಕೆ, ಕಂದಾಚಾರ, ಶೋಷಣೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚೆಚ್ಚು ಬೆಳಕುಚೆಲ್ಲಲಾಗಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯಶಾಹಿಯ ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸ, ಮನುಷ್ಯರನ್ನು ಮೃಗಗಳಂತೆ, ಜೀತದಾಳುಗಳಂತೆ ನೋಡಿದ, ಸಂಪತ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ದೋಚಿದ ವಸಾಹತುಶಾಹಿ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮೃದು ಧೋರಣೆಯಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದು. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಯಿಸಿದ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬರು ಈ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಲೇ ಅಚಿಬೇಗೆ ನೊಬೆಲ್ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತ...
